Alert - Lee Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers, FL Sends Letters to Open Heart Surgery Patients

October 23, 2012 | Category: Medical Devices | Share

262 former patients were notified  October 18, 2012 by Lee Memorial Hospital that they were treated with a cardioplegia solution the hospital received from the New England Compounding Center (NECC).  NECC is directly connected to the Meningitis Outbreak caused by the contaminated steroid  and recently recalled all its products.  The Lee Memorial Hospital letter was sent to patients who had open-heart surgeries since May 12.  The hospital states the cardioplegia solution is only used in the hospital and not given to patients for home use.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a list of all NECC customers in the United States which received shipments from NECC since May 21, 2012.  This list is sorted by State.

The list of all NECC products manufactured since January 12, 2012 appears on the NECC website.  Many of these products are injectables.  All NECC products have been recalled.  Health care givers have been instructed to stop using and remove any NECC products from their shelves.

The Florida Department of Health took disciplinary action against NECC  which forced it to relinquish its license to operate in the State of Florida.  The company will never again be allowed to operate here.

Attorney Randall Spivey of Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A. urges, "If you, your loved one or someone you know has been given an NECC product are experiencing any symptoms, contact your doctor immediately, then contact us.  If you don't know whether these NECC products were used, please ask your doctor.  It's a question that's important to ask."
