Distracted Driving Awareness Month - April 2014

April 11, 2014 | Category: Automobile Accidents | Share

In Florida, as well as across the United States, distraction is one of the primary contributors of vehicle accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) reports that in 2012 (most current available data), 10% of fatal crashes, 18% of injury crashes, and 16% of all motor vehicle traffic crashes were reported as distraction-affected crashes. These percentages equate to 3,328 people killed and an estimated 421,000 injured. The NHTSA's new campaign, launched this year, is titled  U Drive. U Text. U Pay.

"We, at Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A. in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties, are supporting the 'Distracted Driving Awareness' campaign to help drivers become more aware of the actions they may be taking which cause distraction when driving, and to make conscious efforts to re-focus on the roads," says Attorney Randall Spivey.

Before starting a vehicle, drivers should consider turning off cell phones and putting them someplace in the vehicle out of their field of vision, i.e. the back seat or glove compartment.

The U.S. Government website for distracted driving, Distraction.gov, has the following pledge.

Distracted Driving Month - Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.

After downloading the pledge, share it with family and friends.  Encourage them to sign the pledge as well.  Then put it in your vehicles where you will be reminded that cell phone use and texting while driving need to stop.
