5 Tips for Being a roll model may is bicycle

May 28, 2013 | Category: Bike Accidents | Share

618 bicyclists were killed and an additional 52,000 were injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2010 (most recent statistics) according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA and AAA (American Automobile Association) are partnering in a campaign to encourage everyone to "model safe behaviors to enhance the safety of all road users, including those who bicycle."

Since May is Bicycle Safety Month, the Florida Bike Accidents Attorney would like to remind everyone about safe bike riding by sharing the NSC and AAA 5 Tips for Being a "Roll Model":

  1. Ride and Drive Focused -- never distracted.
  2. Ride and Drive Prepared -- always expect the unexpected.
  3. Put Safety First -- We never know when a crash will occur, regardless of skill level or age; always wear a bicycle helmet when on a bicycle and seat belt when in a car.
  4. Follow the Rules of the Road -- A bicyclist is considered a vehicle on the road with all the rights on the roadway and responsibilities of motorized traffic.
  5. Share the Road -- Both vehicle drivers (motorists and bicyclists) should look out for one another and show mutual respect.
