The Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia reported late last week that an injectable  steroid, methylprednisolone acetate,  used by doctors treating back and neck pain had caused people to die of a rare non-contagious fungal meningitis.  Currently 12 people have died, but the CDC reported that as many as 13,000 could be at risk of infection.                                                                         

The news media is continually reporting on this outbreak based upon information they are receiving from the CDC.                                                                      

The latest information from the CDC is as follows:

The injectable steroid which contained no preservatives was shipped from the New England Compounding Center in Framingham, MA to 76 facilities, listed below,  in 23 states.

Who's at risk?

Patients who received potentially contaminated steroid injections in their necks and/or backs, at any of the above facilities, may have reason to be concerned.
