Move Over - It's the Law

May 1, 2012 marked the 10 year anniversary of Florida's "Move Over Law".  Still many don't know about the law or choose to ignore it.  The risks of violating this law are  great in terms of injury to our emergency responders and other motorists.

The Florida "Move Over Law" requires all motorists who are approaching  emergency vehicles with lights flashing to change lanes away from the emergency vehicles if traveling on a multi-lane roadway.  If not able to either do so safely or because the driver is on a single-lane roadway, the driver is required to slow down to a speed that is 20 miles per hour less than the posted speed limit when the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour or greater, or travel at 5 miles per hour when the posted speed limit is 20 miles per hour or less.

"Give our emergency workers the room they need to do their jobs.  You or a member of your family may be counting on them, " says Randall Spivey of the Spivey Law Firm, Ft. Myers, FL.
