Suing Restaurants & Bars for Alcohol-Related Injuries

On January 1, 2014, a 22-year-old young man drove his vehicle into a canal after a night of drinking at a downtown bar. The young man drove over a deteriorating bulkhead at a ferry landing and plunged into the water at approximately 3:30 in the morning. He sustained severe and critical injuries and ultimately drowned. Now, NJ.com reports that the parents of the young man have filed a lawsuit against the bar, the owner of the parking lot, Jersey City and two of its agencies.

Even though it is against the law in most states in the U.S., teens and young people under 21 years of age still admit to consuming alcohol, and many of these drive. A 2014 survey in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, found that among students in grades 9 through 12, the highest use rates the previous month were for alcohol, followed by marijuana and cigarettes.

A local woman is lucky to be alive, according to Lakeland, Florida police, after going on a drunk driving trip she recorded and broadcast live on her own phone with the Periscope app on October 13, 2015. Callers to 911 reported the woman to police. The police then logged onto the Periscope app and identified, found and arrested the woman for DUI.

Naples Bar Must Pay $60 Million in Personal Injury Case

The Naples Daily News reported on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 that a Collier County jury awarded a plaintiff $60 million in a DUI suit against a North Naples pub. The pub was found negligent when its bartenders served an under-aged person too much alcohol resulting in permanent disabilities when the vehicle in which she was riding crashed into a tree in 2003.
