Is Your Vehicle Shaking, Rattling or Rolling?

Is Your Vehicle Shaking, Rattling or Rolling - Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A.If your vehicle shakes, rattles or rolls, it is best to have it looked at by a qualified mechanic before starting on your trip. The American Automobile Safety Foundation reports that many drivers say that they will have the vehicle looked at after the trip is over. That could be too late.

Tire issues are some of the main reasons vehicles shake, rattle, and/or roll, i.e. have vibrations when moving.

The tires on your vehicle are critical to your safety, the safety of your passengers, and that of occupants of other vehicles on the road.

When tires become, what mechanics call "out of round", they  roll unevenly, and tire replacement is usually required. This tire replacement should be done before your trip starts, not after your trip as not doing so may result in an accident.

Tires with separated threads also cause vehicles to shake, rattle and roll. Replace these tires before you start your trip as well, as tires with separated treads cause a lot of  vehicle accidents.

If the cause of the vehicle's shaking, rattling and rolling is the result of uneven tire wear and assuming the tires have enough tread, you can have these tires rotated. Once again, it should be before you start your trip.

Tire balance may also be the cause of vehicle vibration. An indication of a tire balance problem is that the vibration only occurs when the vehicle is traveling at certain speeds. If it is determined that the vibration is caused by tire balance problems, it is not expensive or time consuming to fix.  However, it should be fixed by a qualified mechanic who completes the work before your trip.

Accident Attorney, Randall Spivey of Spivey Law Firm, Personal Injury Attorneys, P.A. suggests, "Stay in touch with your tires as your tires keep your vehicle on the road. Buying new tires is not splurging; it is just good tire sense. It has been recommended that a good time to buy tires at discounted prices is it the end of December and in January when tires go on sale. Check the ratings on the tires before you buy them in such places as Consumer Reports or on U.S. government websites. Make sure the tires you are considering do not have bad ratings or have been subject to recalls."
